How one idea created two communities: Elphie and Codie Community for kids and Skills by codePannu for women
How one idea for children helped us build two communities this year
From the day we finished our first Python batch, we noticed the same pattern across all our courses. Children enjoyed learning programming. They built projects with excitement. But the moment the course ended, practice stopped. Their confidence dipped and parents did not know how to keep the momentum going.
In 2025, we decided to fix it. So we spent months researching how communities work, studying what helps learners stay active, and testing small versions to see what actually creates engagement. Slowly, we built a system that felt right for children and their learning needs.
By mid year, one idea turned into something real.
Elphie and Codie community
A safe and engaging space that keeps children practising. Elphie and Codie became our community for children who complete our Python courses.
Every week, they receive small programming exercises. When they complete them, they earn points and stars that make progress feel joyful. Parents appreciate that their children stay connected to programming without pressure.
The community is completely safe and guided. Children interact through guided activities and to keep it engaging, we try everything we can think of. New challenge ideas. Simple competitions. Playful themes. Small celebrations of consistency.
Over time, these weekly exercises help children build confidence, continuity, and skills that last.
But the story doesn’t end here. This inspired our second community
Once we designed the Elphie and Codie community, we realised that the same model could help another group that matters deeply to us.
Skills by codePannu
A supportive space for women on a career break.
At codePannu, we want to grow. But we have realised something important. We cannot grow fast enough because we do not find enough women to join our team.
There are so many experienced women out there. Yet many hesitate to apply. Not because they lack ability, but because a career break has shaken their confidence.
That is why we started Skills by codePannu. It is a safe, supportive, all women community where women on a career break can rediscover their strengths, learn comfortably, rebuild confidence at their own pace, and create work that brings both income and respect.
Every month, we plan to conduct workshops and webinars that help them build one small skill at a time.
And as they grow, we hope some of them will join us. Not just to work for codePannu, but to grow with codePannu.
Building skills that last
Both communities began as simple ideas. One to help children continue practising. The other to help women rebuild confidence.
Different needs. Different audiences. But the same belief sits at the heart of both spaces.
Learning lasts only when people have a safe, steady place to show up, try, and grow.
This year, we built two such spaces.
Next year, we hope to make them stronger.
